How to Plant Basil Seeds
Basil is generally sown in mid to late April and can be broadcast live.
1. Flower selection: Basil is a deep-rooted plant, and its roots can be buried 0.5 to 1 meter, so it is more suitable to choose a flower pot with a higher height. Therefore, it is advisable to choose a well-drained, fertile and loose coconut soil for cultivation, and apply basal fertilizer or nutrient soil before planting.

2. Seed treatment method: Put the seeds into the container, pour a little cold water first, and soak the seeds. After about 3-5 minutes, after the seed skin is soaked and absorb some water, slowly pour hot water into the container, and stir with a wooden stick while pouring, so that the seeds are heated evenly.

When the water temperature in the container rises to 50--55 ℃, the heating of the water can be stopped; when the temperature drops, add some hot water to keep the water temperature at the required temperature for 15--20 minutes, and then naturally cool to about 25 ℃ , continue to soak the seeds, the soaking time is based on the water absorption of the seeds just saturated. After basil is soaked, a layer of mucus usually appears on the surface of the seeds, which is prone to mold during the germination process, resulting in rotten seeds. Therefore, after soaking the seeds, rinse the seeds repeatedly with clean water, and rub vigorously until the mucus on the surface of the seeds is removed. Germination was carried out at a temperature of around 25°C.

During the germination process, rinse with water once a day to control the net. If the amount of seeds is large, turn it 1--2 times a day to balance the temperature and germinate neatly. The temperature in the early stage of germination can be slightly higher to promote germination. When the buds will emerge (the seeds will open their mouths), sowing will begin.

3. Sowing: Sowing should be done in the morning on a sunny day. Put the nutrient soil into the seeding tray, and pour it with hot water or warm water. After the water seeps in, sprinkle a layer of soil, and evenly sown the sprouted seeds in the tray. Cover with 1cm thick soil, cover with plastic film, keep warm and moisturizing.

4. Thinning: When the height of the seedlings is 6-10 cm, thinning and replenishing the seedlings are carried out, 2-3 seedlings are left in each hole for hole sowing, and 1 seedling is left at about 10 cm for drilling. The first time 10 to 20 days after emergence, shallow hoe the topsoil. The second time is from early May to early June, before the seedlings are sealed, and nutrient soil should be applied after each cultivating. The seedling stage is afraid of drought, so pay attention to watering in time.
