GLYCOLIC ACID

Alpha hydroxy acids have been shown to promote smoother, younger looking skin by increasing the rate of cell renewal, improving skin texture and tone.

Glycolic acid peels help to eliminate germs, toxins and dead cells on skins surface. Rejuvenates skin by encouraging the shedding of old, sun-damaged surface skin cells. It stimulates new growth of skin and collagen by decreasing the bond that holds dead skin cells on the surface. This allows dead cells to be removed gradually, leaving behind a layer of smoother and softer skin.

There are two ways to use the glycolic acid: as a weekly peel or nightly exfoliation lotion.

GLYCOLIC ACID PEEL

For whom is this product? Glycolic acid peel 15% strength is ideal treatment for individuals who are new to peeling (Great for all skin types, including dry to sensitive types). First time users should always start at 15% to avoid burns; Mix 1tsp glycolic acid with 1tsp water.  Glycolic acid peel 30% strength is ideal treatment for individuals who have had prior experience using peels of equal or greater strength.

Steps

1: Cleanse face with an oil-free cleanser.

2: Wash off the products on your body as well.

3: Have a neutralizing solution ready to stop the action of the acid if needed.

4: Apply peel to face with a cotton ball, applying more pressure on areas that need added exfoliation.

5: Wait 10-15 minutes.

6: Rinse thoroughly with warm water. If needed, use neutralizing solution from step 3, to neutralize acid.

7: Apply a good skin moisturizer unto treated area. We recommend our raw organic shea butter.

8: Repeat peel once a week. To achieve best results, take a course of at least 4-8 procedures of acid peel every 7-14 days. The frequency can vary depending on individual skin futures. Enjoy!

Tips to Remember: Keep the acid a quarter-inch or more away from the eyes and mucus membranes. Never use the peel on open wounds, irritated or highly sensitive skin. Don't use the product more than once a week. Avoid sun exposure for at least a day after the peel. Don't apply acid to skin that's been shaved within a day. A slight stinging sensation is normal after applying the acid; if it hurts or is too uncomfortable, rinse off the acid. Skin may be red after a peel; the redness should fade.

Sunburn Alert:This product may increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun and the possibility of sunburn. Use a broad spectrum zinc based sunscreen and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterward.

2. DIY GLYCOLIC ACID LOTION - NIGHT TIME ONLY!

You want to make small quantities. You may not know the PH of what you’re using and you don’t know how you may need to tweak your formula. This way, you can rely on the preservatives in the store bought lotion to support the acid you’ve added. I typically measure in tablespoons. This keeps the amount small, and the preparation quick.

All you need to do is mix the appropriate amount of glycolic acid to the appropriate amount of lotion. you’ ready.

What is the appropriate amount? i have no solid answer for you, but I have suggestions.

You have to start at a low, safe strength then ramp up as time goes on. This allows your skin to adapt to your new regimen and makes it less likely for you to burn yourself.

~ 5-6% is a great starting point for facial and neck use.

~11-13% is a great starting point for a whole body lotion. Certain areas will need a lower/higher concentration.

You will have to do a little math.

original GA strength x amount of GA = final concentration x total yield

That’s the formula. you need to plug in 3 fixed numbers to find your winning variable. for example:

90% x 2 tablespoons = 12.8% x Y

• Y will equal 14, which is your total yield. Subtract the amount of glycolic acid (2 tablespoons) to find out how much lotion you need (12 tablespoons). Make sure you use a decimal point when dealing with percentages.

To make things easier, I made a little cheat sheet for you.

1 part 30% glycolic acid + 1 part  lotion = 15% concentration (2 total parts)

1 part GA + 2 parts LO = 10%

1 part GA + 3 parts LO = 7.5%

1 part GA + 4 parts LO = 6%

1 part GA + 5 parts LO = 5%

1 part GA + 6 parts LO = 4.3%

1 part GA + 7 parts LO = 3.7%

Refer to the suggestions above. It’s much easier to develop chemical burns and hyperpigmentation on areas like underarms, the neck and the areas behind your elbows & knees (folds). People differ where they have thinner skin. You need to be very gentle with these areas and use a low strength lotion.

You also have thick skin areas such as the bottom of your feet, your knees, elbows. These areas will take longer to improve and will need a higher strength solution. You must slowly ease your way into a high strength solution.

You can use your 10% Glycolic Acid Cream as a base to add more glycolic acid peel to create a higher strength peeling cream. Simply follow the cheat sheet below.

1 part 30% glycolic acid + 1 part 10%  lotion = 20% concentration (2 total parts)

1 part GA + 2 parts 10%  LO = 16.7%

1 part GA + 3 parts 10%  LO = 15%

1 part GA + 4 parts 10%  LO = 14%

1 part GA + 5 parts 10%  LO = 13.3%

1 part GA + 6 parts 10%  LO = 12.9%

1 part GA + 7 parts 10%  LO = 12.5%

Glycolic acid lotion is generally universal. Do not use peeling lotion on any mucus membranes

General Cautions:

Never use manual exfoliators nor scrubbing brushes within 24 hours of using a peel.

Stop Retin A, benzoyl peroxides, acne products and any other drying agents 24 hours before and after using an alpha hydroxy or beta hydroxy peel.

Never apply a peel without doing a patch-test first and waiting 48 hours for results.

Never apply a chemical peel to inflamed skin.

Always read product directions in their entirety and don't take shortcuts.

For first time users, please do a patch test before using to determine your skin sensitivity.
